The second shot to the par 5 eighteenth with the backdrop of the majestic clubhouse is one to be savoured but nearly as much as the ham, egg and chips post round! Wildernesse is a real test of your iron-play and putting - precision is very much the order of the day. New Listings And the food is good and the welcome from the inside staff excellent. After the round you realise that nothing of Kent has been seen - the trees hide everything. Its modest yardage has proved to be sufficient challenge for a number of famous Wildernesse members, including Gerald Micklem and Peter Hedges (both former Walker Cup players), Sam King (who played in three Ryder Cups), and Richard Partridge, who won the both the Scottish and Irish Amateur Seniors Open Championship in 2015. A par-4 under 400 yards, slightly uphill and turning left around 240 yards to a long green that points a little right as a mark of quality, this hole would not look out of place on any of the Woburn courses, especially the Dukes. 2, 5, 9, 15, 16 and 17 I really enjoyed. Trees line the lush fairways which are coupled with small fast greens (very fast!). With a wide variety of brand name gear and apparel, the Wilderness Club Resort Pro Shop has a good selection of sizes and designs.
There is a chance of par or better at the 18th; a par-5 under 500 yards, downhill from the tee, then turning right uphill to the green located in the perfect position just under the clubhouse terrace. Give me a rugged, wind-swept links any day of the week but of its ilk Wildernesse is what many parkland venues should aspire to be. I personally preferred the cheese, but would wholeheartedly recommend that any visiting golfer play both courses for different reasons. There is a generous landing area for your second shot. Fairly easy par 3 that plays slightly uphill. Find the fairway at the par 4 sixteenth and it offers up a well framed mid iron to a downhill green with run offs both sides and long, just play front yardage! Do not go left! More than 80 species of birds and other wildlife have been documented within the community, which has been certified since 1999 as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. And so the round continues with one good hole followed by another. An uphill putt here will move right-to-left. Ive played a few times at Wildernesse now, and the course continues to grow on me. You dont know really why it stands out but it does, maybe you play well, maybe the course just appeals to what you like but that is what happened to me at the Wildernesse.

0 people found this review helpful I Quite possibly the hardest course to get on in the state of Nevada the ultra-exclusive Glenelg is a seriously good golf course. The. I particularly like 2, which contains the only water at a driveable distance if you wish to cut off the dog-leg and have a shorter shot in, 3 with a fairway sloping right to left but a green up on a shelf to the right and the lovely short par 3 fifth, where the green if the only safe place to land. The spacious clubhouse offered lovely course views over a pre round coffee on the south facing veranda which I thought would make for a great lunching spot but more on that later. The fifth hole was the first standout hole and one which was well planned out by James Braid who redesigned some of the original holes. Designed by the legendary Sir Nick Faldo, the Wilderness Club championship golf course is recognized as the #57 ranked golf course in America by Golf Digest (September 2021) and #1 in Montana by Golf Week (2022). Here we face a pair of short holes sandwiching two par-fives. Established in 1974, and totally refurbished in 2004, the golf course at Wilderness is considered one of the premiere golfing venues in Southwest Florida. A glorious par three at 190yds off the whites to a two tiered green that must make one of the best holes in the county to a back right pin. On reflection I should really have scored better but it was really tricky in parts of this superbly conditioned parkland with a lot of semi blind greens and sadly got caught out with a wrong club or two. It was pleasing to see lots of tight, short grass around the greens giving the golfer many options on how to play recovery shots from the surrounds, many of which have some considerable run-offs. There is really no point in challenging the large waste area that runs along the left side of this par 4. Its not long off the yellow tees and, so long as the ball stays away from the trees, its straightforward.
As a ball rating on Top 100 this is not quite a 5-ball but is a strong 4-ball and enjoyable to play, there are parts of the course that are very strong indeed.The 1st hole, a par-4 can be described as a gentle opener although the long green needs an accurate approach. We played this tight tree lined course the week before Regional Open Qualifying which (2019) is the clubs penultimate staging of their five year cycle. The large green has two tiers, low front and high back. They have a mandatory golf membership, which includes use of the golf course, full-service clubhouse with formal and casual dining, 4-Har-Tru tennis courts, 4-Har-Tru bocce courts, a croquet court, a Dog Park, and 5-salt water community pools. Without a doubt, the best conditioned inland course in Kent. If you like parkland courses make the effort to play, if you dont make the effort to go and play. Chilled bottles of water are an inviting complement to a productive practice session. Most holes are OK, nothing more, but the 2nd, 9th, and then 15th to 18th are good tests. A lover of a short par 3 the thirteenth at 125yds on the day ticked another box before a series of tight driving holes in. Wilderness Country Club is one of the oldest and most select private clubs in Southwest Florida. Nothing knew there. It's no surprise the course has hosted many notable competitions including Regional Qualifying for The Open and just prior to my visit it had staged the Kent Amateur Championship.
