Nothing wrong with the lab though, just depends how you want to spend your money! I would recommend the lab to anyone starting out. I had the old wooden one when I was a kid and I now have the one pictured. I have PNP and NPNs to last me a lifetime.

Electronics-learning-lab-labels-for-containers. I personally still use the breadboard for prototyping basic projects just because there are lots of frequently used components right there, easily accessible. If you have the motor skills to plug things into a breadboard, I would second this.
