Blyth Greenway Trail The development of this trail was a community project that includes a walking trail, a fitness trail and a fish habitat improvement area. Located northwest of the village of Dungannon, this area was surveyed as a long hundred acre farm, nearly 1.35km in length and 30% longer than typical 100 acre farms further south. As the trail rises towards Lake Huron, the hills become long and steep. The Menesetung Bridge was built as a railway bridge in 1907. Mountain biking is allowed but there are some stairs and the trail is mainly used for hiking. The CPR ran this line till it was abandoned in 1988. Goderich by the River Mountain Bike Trail This 2km popular blue singletrack trail is primarily used for mountain bike in both directions and has a moderate overall physical rating with a 56 m blue climb. Id walked the entirety of the 121-kilometre Avon Trail, stretching from St. Marys to Conestogo, completing it in 2020. The path takes you along cornfields planted within a few feet of the trail. Port to Point Trail: A proposed 5km multi-use trail connecting the Goderich to Point Farms Provincial Park. Best MTB Gear | Quick rides Traffic is lite in this region so it should not be an issue. So it was not really suitable to post for anyone. At the mouth of the Maitland River youll find the historic Town of Goderich, home of the largest operating salt mine in the world. Access Many enter points along the route. The County of Huron is currently working on a Cycling Master Plan. It is overseen and maintained by volunteers and steward groups who are passionate trail enthusiasts and continuously work on improving the trail. A single car passes us, carrying a Mennonite family home from church. Enjoy the spectacular look-out view of the rapids at Pipers Dam eighty feet below. The 18 km of dyke tops and 13 km of established trails are great for hiking and cycling. Though there is a subtle descent of 250 m to the lake you wont notice this till the end. Wingham Community Trail The trail runs from east to west, meandering along the old abandoned rail bed, crossing the Maitland River and then making a loop around the Turnberry Flood Plain Conservation Area to take you back. The short trail includes picnic tables, a canoe launch, a butterfly meadow, and points of historic interest. Maitland Cemetery In an effort to rehabilitate the area after the August 2011 tornado, groves of trees and wildflowers were planted by sponsoring organizations, families and individuals. The rest stops and vignettes that private landowners have created for trail users are whimsical, gestures of kindness just when I need a break. | Many enter points along the route. Flat routes Purchased by the County in 1951, this property was part of a province-wide effort to reforest fragile lands for the improvement of water quality, reduction of flooding and conservation of soil. For those who want a leisurely long bike ride in the midst of Ontario farm country this the trail to chill you out and take it in.
