It's like he's socially insecure. Even when he says "sorry for your loss" after Hank is killed, it seems like he just knows that that's what you're supposed to say in that situation. Hes nice to Walter because he respects him, same with Jesse. Mike generally only kills people he feels have chosen to be "in the game," and is generally pretty honourable. Taking it a step further, Todd might actually be an inverted narcissist: a concept I read about years ago. His character is definitely the opposite of Jesse. I think socially insecure is the best descriptor for him. He was also really dumb, which added to his creepiness. I couldnt tell if it was just me who thought Todd wanted Jesse to like him. Even a sociopath knows the basic concept of respect. Todd doesn't have such moral qualms. He wants Lydia to like him (of course that could just be for sex, which admittedly does fit in with psychopathic tendencies). He gives Jesse cigarettes when hes enslaved, he is respectful to Walter white pretty much all the time and even apologized to him in the last episode and regrettably told him sorry mr white, you shouldnt have come back. Its like taking out the trash for him. Its like Jesse is his dog. Anyone couldve done it but he insisted it was done by him simply because it was enjoyable to hurt someone. Idk, what do you guys think ? Hes just a strange strange character, He gave me the creeps. It seems to me that a psychopath wouldn't give two shits what Walt thinks of him. Idk what to make of him, I feel like he was groomed, trained and brainwashed by jack to be a hit man and to do whatever necessary for the business. Their dynamic was so hard to read. But with Todd it seems different. The first time I didnt think much of Todd.
He dosent have some tearful or saddened reaction when his uncle jack and the rest of the gang get mowed down by a gun, he just seems shocked and confused. A subreddit for fans and critics of the hit television series Breaking Bad on AMC. He definitely lacks empathy towards his victims, but he wants to show himself as a dutiful sidekick to Uncle Jack and to a lesser extent Walt. He wants Jesse to like him for some reason, even when it doesn't seem to serve any purpose. I just thought he was just a dumb henchman for uncle Jack. And when he has Jesse imprisoned he dosent even really seem to understand what hes doing to him. I wont spend a lot of time typing all the similarities, but the main one being killing. Im by no means an expert in mental illness, not by any stretch. On one hand, he kills with zero pity. Todd was very eager to torture Jessie.
Overall, I think Todd is a piece of shit, definitely a product of his environment, hes not malicious, hes a nice guy but hes cold hearted in every sense of the word, I actually disagree with part of this. Then in el Camino with the house maid. Describing him as evil doesn't really fit the bill - he just has no concept of morality. He didnt enjoy murdering anyone, but didnt hesitate in doing so and never showed remorse. Everything I understand about psychopaths tells me that "socially insecure" is not in their programming. But from what I gather hes a psychopath or has psychopathic tendencies, hes not a malicious person, he just dosent feel remorse, he kills people for mundane reasons because for him its a simple solution, he dosent take into account the fact that he is taking a human life because for him thats not really a big deal. Man that was such an awkward and funny scene. Each time I tried to find some redeeming quality about Todd he would do something animalistic like how he killed jesses second girlfriend in the last season right in front of him. Maybe a psychopath might bring ice cream to his prisoner, if he thought that it might manipulate the prisoner into cooking better meth. He does seem somewhat remorseful about hanks death, but that seems more that he feels bad for Walt, he dosent actually care that hank is dead. But after watching it again and then watching El Camino I found myself becoming perplexed by his behavior. Todd kills anyone with no remorse, Jesse will have little remorse when killing criminals or people who have seriously wronged him (such as the welders in El Camino), but when he kills a civilian, or someone like Gale, he feels lots of remorse and it forever changes him. Press J to jump to the feed. Him being charismatic had nothing to do with his morals or being a good person. A psychopath wouldn't have talked Uncle Jack into leaving a barrel of money for Walt. I dont know if he understands the mental anguish that hes putting Jesse through. An inverted narcissist can actually latch onto the classic narcissist, and in-turn gets his supply from being the perfect servant. He respected Walt. He probably realized from a young age acting pleasant towards others suited him better than acting like a dick all the time. His refusal to accept Walt's money until he becomes a better cook was one of his most interesting moves - I still don't have that one quite figured out since it's clear that he acts in self-interest. He shot Drew and Andrea because that's what his bosses told him to do, and nothing else comes into consideration. I say that for one reason: Todd cares about what certain people think of him. Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts. You're looking kinda lonely girl Would you like someone new to talk to Ah-yeah, alright I'm feeling kinda lonely too If you don't mind, can I sit down here beside you Ah-yeah, alright, Hahaha. He's probably the most fascinating character in the show. Evil respects evil. A classic narcissist like Walt gets his narcissistic supply from people who admire, praise, and fear him. I just got done watching breaking bad for the second time. Yeah. Sorry for the zombie thread reanimation, but I'm not sure if Todd is a psychopath. But when he isnt killing someone the kid is totally laid back, care free and actually somewhat kind. His devotion to Uncle Jack and admiration of Walt, who are probably both narcissists, suggests he may be codependent. Here you will find discussions and speculations about the show, pictures from the show, AMA's with the cast, and anything else Breaking Bad related.
