jointer/planer combo grizzly

Now you have. I used to work at a ww supply store and we had a Jet combo unit on the floor. and comes with a 1-year parts warranty. There was another guy on here from Alaska, too, also happy. The lack of space means the planner gets tucked away in the corner and the jointer is never connected to dust collection.

Many thanks! However there is also a Jet 10" combo that is widely held in poor regard. There are two feed rollers, anti-kickback fingers, and a thickness scale. I would be hard pressed to go with an "also ran" company who is relatively new to combo machines. I love it. All were a pleasure to use. That means no more replacing or sharpening blades when they get dull or nicked, and better dust collection. The G0634X weighs in at 704 lbs.

I'm looking at the G0634XP andn G0634Z, and it appears that the only difference is the amount of space the machine takes and the position of the fence, with the XP having anend-mounted fence. If you have a deeper pocket look at the Felder. I have the Felder AD941, which is roughly 5-6x the price of the Grizzly ones shown so it may not be a fair fight. Latest Wood Magazine issue 263 rated the Grizzly G0634Z as their "top value" with the Hammer and Jet tying for "Top Tool".

I don't have any specific comment on the Grizzlys, though I recall there was a review in Fine Woodworking a few years ago.

That is, I don't make my living doing this. If Hammer could just get a second gear on that table-raising mechanism . Happy with my Hammer A3/31 J/P combo although I still lust after a Felder like @Llamaafter this basement maybe.

Display as a link instead, I also have a few small projects that I have been putting off. Interesting considering the abuse Jet has taken on alignment issues; they have obviously responded and fixed those. I have no experience with the grizzly, but got to use a Hammer combo J/P recently and was very impressed with how easy the changeover was.

It does everything I ask of it and then some, takes up less space than the two machines would separately and was much less than the two separate machine would have been in comparable configurations. Yep, I bit the bullet and bought the G0634XP - 12 Planer/Jointer with Spiral Cutter head - Polar Bear Series from Grizzly. Something went wrong. You cannot paste images directly.

Your previous content has been restored. Bought the Jointer/Planner combo from Grizzly.

I currently have the Jet JJ-6CS And the DeWalt DW734. My Grizzly separates have served me well for many years but, do require a substantial footprint. Minimum purchase required. I can't say good or bad on the combo. The inserts are 15 x 15 x 2.5mm and the speed is 5034 RPM. The Paintline Introduces New Spikes, Felts. In the past I've owned Inca, Luna and Felder (5 function combo). Both are fine machines and served me well for the last 15-20 years. Conversion from jointer to planer just requires removing the quick-release fence and then flipping up the jointer tables. I'd pass on the Grizzly ones. So, in the end, I went with the Grizzly. The Hammer machines are far superior and are much closer in price than you might expect. Most reviews that I found also rated the Grizzly the overall best unit, with the Jet being a little quicker on the changeover. If you have an account, sign in now to post with your account. I wouldn't get either of them. Doug,I am so glad I bought a jointer/planer combo. @jplemonsif I recall purchased the 12" Jet combo and was happy with it. I'm looking at jointer/planer combos, and have pretty much decided on a Grizzly. This means that both are a hassle to use and neither gets used as they should.

Your link has been automatically embedded. If i didn't have a basement shop I'd have bought one. The G0634XP was also the best price when compared with the Jet and the Rikon. The Hammer A3-xx series certainly has a large following in the $5k-plus tier. Is there changeover time involved? The rubber-coated outfeed roller eliminates roller impressions on finished workpieces. The change over between the two machines seems simple, and I hear that the dust collection works as well, if not better than most conventional machines.

However, over the last couple of years, I have grown more and more disappointed with their performance. September 12, 2019 in Power Tools. Enter the combo machines! Never had one. Better Planner - The DeWalt, being a portable planner, does an ok job, but no matter how well I keep the knives it just does not leave a good finish. By journeyjane, Clear editor. Whichever way you go, good luck and report back with the results! Hopefully, it will arrive in the next week, and I can do a few test cuts. Seller assumes all responsibility for this listing. Getting better in standard jointer and planners mean more space which I dont have. You can post now and register later. I don't have a combo machine and I'm glad that I didn't purchase one. Although the planner is roughly the same cut size, I should get better performance from the spiral cutter in both planning and jointing. More accurate of a statement is "stay away from cheap combo machines.".

View cart for details. Doug, I'm a woodworker and I'm so glad I bought a jointer/planer combo. Saving Space - Although I have a nice sized shop, I am always in need of more space.

I have yet to hear any woodworker say "I'm so glad I bought a jointer/planer combo". Pasted as rich text. Listed at $3,145, the newest Grizzly jointer/planer combo (G0634X) combines a 5 HP single phase motor with a V-helical cutterhead where the 48 indexable carbide inserts can each be rotated up to 3 times. Those heavy-duty, cast-iron tables are precision-ground to a mirror-like finish. Also, the fact that there is not enough room in the shop to leave the planner out, it is a hassle to set up which means it is not used as often as it should be or more to the point, I avoid small projects that need a planner. By combining these two machines into one ultimately takes up less space. For me the 12 jointer was an eye opener. The jointer has a depth of cut scale on the front and the quick-release fence (5-3/4 x 51-1/2) can be positioned at any angle between 45 and 90 as indicated by the tilt scale. The G0634XP - 12 Planer/Jointer with Spiral Cutter head answers almost all of my needs. The item you've selected was not added to your cart. As I was looking at the needs of my shop and where I could improve in both quality and process, the jointer and planners are both items that are both laking in both performance and process. Larger Jointer - As my work grows, so does my tool needs, the six-inch jointer has been excellent, but I would like to get a more extended table at the very least, and an eight-inch full bed would allow me to flat join most boards you by these days. Paste as plain text instead, Yes, but that can be mitigated easily, see below. I have been looking at changing my machines over to these cutters for a while, but the cost is almost the same as I paid for the machines originally. The jointer gives me almost 12 inches of flat cut, with about a foot long bed. Copyright 1995-2022 eBay Inc. All Rights Reserved. Which Grizzly Jointer/Planer to purchase. Planer footprints are usually pretty small so you won't lose a ton of space. I have several Grizzly machines, and I am happy with both the company and the quality of the equipment. Maybe this will give me a reason to get to them. Upload or insert images from URL. $200 for 24 months. If you can afford the cash andspace, as well as theelectric and DC hookups for separate units that may be the best, but for a lot of folks a combo unit is a viable approach.

Copyright 2021 The Wood Whisperer, Inc. Carrying something that heavy into my basement would have sucked! It has tons of snipe and is a little cumbersome to get dust collection working. Almost all of them have spiral head cutters on them that produce a beautiful finish and run quietly. I don't know anything about the models and maybe they'll be fine, but for the price I'd go with two dedicated machines. The planer feed rate is 22 FPM and the maximum thickness is 8. But I can say I am pleased with my 8" Delta jointer and my 15" Jet planer. There are four main areas that I looked at in determining where to go next. I would welcome your comments, including reviews from those who have one of these machines, and advantages and disadvantages of different types of fences. I only ever sold that to beginners who couldn't afford to buy the two machines separately from each other. The 12 size is excellent for the majority of work I do, but I would like better thickness adjustment, better quality of finish, and to work in my process better by being set up and ready to run. What I do might make me move to that platform but, purely for space and personal reasons. I've owned a few of them over the years and currently have a Hammer A3-41 16" J/P combination. Spiral Head Cutter - Every year I go to classes at Marc Adams School of Woodworking and use all their excellent tools.
